Experience the exotic underwater world of the Dallas World Aquarium in downtown Dallas. This all encompassing aquarium is actually more like a zoo with fascinating exhibits from around the world ranging from sharks, colourful fish and stingrays, to magnificent birds and even Jaguars.
Opened in 1992 and an accredited member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Dallas World Aquarium has grown to become one of the country’s highest rated wild life sanctuaries.
The Dallas Aquarium’s main goal is to house, care for and breed endangered species within realistic exhibits that promote education and conservation. One of the major highlights of the facility is the amazing eight-story Mundo Maya exhibit which recreates Mexico’s diverse Yucatan Peninsula.
This unique aquarium environment features many plants and animals found in Mayan folklore and includes everything from gorgeous toucans to the elusive three-toed sloths. The main attraction though is the huge 400,000 gallon water tank filled with Caribbean marine life such as sea turtles, sharks and much more.
With enlightening performances, feedings and interesting talks, the aquarium is both a fun and highly educational experience that offers a special look at our planet’s life and eco-systems.
The Dallas World Aquarium is located in the historic West End area of downtown and is just blocks away from major highways. Griffin Street is a major north and south artery and the aquarium is located on the west side of the road. While the aquarium does not have its own car park there are several public car parks nearby.
The aquarium encourages public transport and offers a $1.00 discount on admission when presenting a DART Rail Line or bus receipt. The Red, Blue, Green and Orange DART lines all stop at West End Station near the site.
