The striking, distinctive look of this temple has gained this house of worship international recognition for its modern, cutting edge appearance. The exterior is designed of interconnecting sections made to look like a blossoming flower and is all the more dramatic when illuminated in the evenings. Opened in 1986 and located in New Delhi, the temple is of the Bahá’ í faith and attracts as many as 10,000 visitors daily.
Teachings of the Bahá’í faith centre on the unity and oneness of God, religions and mankind and this is reflected through the pure like qualities of the lotus flower. The design of 27 ‘petals’ of white marble creates a dome like appearance commonly found in the six Bahá’í temples around the world.
The temple is open for self-guided tours. Take a stroll through the surrounding gardens and enjoy the stunning external views of the beautiful temple. Before entering, remove your shoes in the designated shoe room outside the temple. From here visitors proceed to the prayer room where people of all religions are invited to pray, meditate and worship. Prayer services are held several times a day with readings given from different religions.
Visitors pass through the information centre and shoe room before entering the temple. The information centre is located off of Lotus Temple Road. The temple can be reached by metro and is a short walk from Kalkaji Mandir.
