Noumea also has an excellent zoo as well as fascinating museums detailing the history of the island and Pacific exploration. Be sure to visit Amadee Island just a short boat ride from Noumea. The island’s gorgeous 52 metre high lighthouse was constructed in Paris in 1862 before being disassembled and shipped to New Caladonia where it has been standing tall ever since.
