Go big in Iberia: The best of Portugal and Spain

20 November 2018

Why choose between an awesome holiday in Spain or Portugal when you can do both? Head out on an epic adventure across the Iberian Peninsula packed with flamenco dancing, fairy-tale castles, impressive art and plenty of sangria and siestas.

Oh the places you’ll go!

Expect to see all the top cities packed with jaw-dropping architecture, amazing museums, vibey neighbourhoods and cool hangouts. From bustling Barcelona, artsy Madrid and Valencia in Spain to historic Lisbon, picturesque Porto, enchanting Sintra and beyond in Portugal.

Do all the things

From jaw-dropping architecture and mind-blowing museums to medieval towns and modern street art, Iberia has it all. Check out Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, wander along Las Ramblas and feast your eyes on spectacular views of the city from Montjuïc in Barcelona. See Picasso’s famous Guernica at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. Chill out with some troglodytes in an underground cave in Guadix. Spot the strange frog and astronaut carvings at the Gothic Cathedral in Salamanca. Don’t miss the impressive St. George´s Castle for great views of Lisbon, plus the Belem Tower and gorgeous Jeronimos Monastery. Explore the narrow cobble-stone streets of Porto, where you might pop out at a medieval palace, church or castle at nearly every turn.

Eat up!

Spain and Portugal don’t skimp on the good stuff. Keep the tapas coming and wine flowing when you head out for a meal anywhere in Iberia. Knock back a glass of authentic port in Porto. Enjoy a huge helping of paella in Valencia. Snack on spicy Patatas Bravas and super tasty Spanish tortillas. Save some space for Portugal though! Try a plate of salty fishy Bacalhau or fresh sardines in Lisbon. Snack on a juicy Bifana (pork bun) from a street vendor. And pig out on delicious Pasteis de Nata at Pasteis de Belem (the most famous sweet treat in Lisbon).

Up for a party?

Great! ‘Cause Spain and Portugal keep the beats dropping and the party going till sunrise (and beyond). For the ultimate party sesh, head to Ibiza where the world’s top DJs and biggest party animals stomp it out to hardcore electronic beats. Back on mainland, Fuencarral in Madrid has the coolest club scene. Or get sultry with some flamenco dancing in Triana. Partying in Portugal is a little more laid-back but just as fun, with street parties, vibey bars, chic lounges and plenty of pubs in every city. Plus, you can’t throw a seashell without hitting a rocking beach party along the coast.
