You'll probably need a good couple of lifetimes to explore all the fabulous attractions of Central Europe but I'll share with you my personal favourites.
Austria
For history and heritage, rising and waning fortunes you can't go wrong with Austria.
Aristocratic Vienna has jewels such as the Hofburg Palace and the Museumquartier. The trendy shopping area of Mariahilfer Strasse offers hundreds of jewelery, clothing and accessory stores. While gorgeous Salzburg is filled with elaborate 17-th century buildings leaning over narrow cobbled streets. Look out for the love locks on the bridge.
Czech Republic
Beautiful Prague is known as the The Golden City with a Hundred Spires and enjoys fairytale architecture and elegant bridges over the Vltava River.
Switzerland
Lucerne is the focal point for Switzerland's tourism industry and is also the setting for the legend of William Tell. Apple anyone?
Danube Valley
The Danube is possibly the most beautiful of Europe's rivers and offers a wealth of picturesque towns, ruined castles and vineyards. If you're feeling particularly energetic you can cycle down the Danube Cycle Path - 305 kilometres between Vienna and Passau. But if you're anything like me the best way to enjoy the Danube is on a river cruise.
