5 Things to do in Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay is a place filled with activities and attractions to indulge in. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa as it provides something for anyone and everyone in a comfortable oceanic climate. It is located on the Southern Cape coast and is part of the Garden Route, which is famous for its ecologically diverse vegetation and striking beauty.

1. Beaches

Like any coastal town, one of Plettenberg Bay’s main attractions is its golden beaches. It is the perfect place to spend a day relaxing on the beach and taking a swim in the warm Indian Ocean water.  Choose the time you go wisely because the beaches can get very busy in the summer months and over school holiday’s (April, July, October, December).

 

2. The Global Village

Settled among banana fronds, Global village is another very exciting attraction that Plettenberg Bay has to offer. This beautiful and charming shopping village offers a wide range of interesting African and International merchandise for sale. Don’t forget to visit the Earth Café and enjoy delicious meals prepared by local lovers of food.

 

3. Birds of Eden

Birds of Eden is the largest free flight bird sanctuary in the world and an absolutely amazing experience. It is a gorgeous natural setting with over 200 different species of both African and exotic birds to marvel at, including surprisingly tame parrots (of which there are over 60 different species).

 

4. Tsitsikama Forest

The mystical Tsitsikama forest is a place of breathtaking beauty. From large stretches of forest to a plethora of waterfalls, it is truly a treat to the eyes. There are many hiking trails and walkways you can use to explore this magical place and many activities to partake in such as hiking, mountain biking, bungy jumping and many more.

 

5. Bloukrans Bridge Bungy Jump

The Bloukrans bungy jump is one the most popular international attractions for adrenaline junkies. This bungy jump is the highest commercial and natural bungy jump in the world with a terrifying 216m drop. It has been described as “one of the best adrenaline rushes in the world”.
