For the thrill-seekers...
Where in the world could you be up 192 metres in the air on the SkyWalk in the morning and then zooming around seeing the city sights on the back of a Harley Davidson motorbike in the afternoon? In Auckland, of course!
Holidaying in New Zealand’s adventure playground means adventure options to the max. Jump off the Auckland Harbour Bridge with New Zealand’s only ocean-touch bungy, then zip through the forest on a quad bike tour.
With so much to do, you’re going to need more than just one day! Here’s an ideal itinerary for a long weekend of adventure in Auckland.
Day 1
Fly into Auckland and make the easy transfer to your hotel, from here you’ve got an afternoon free to explore the city! Enjoy a casual bite to eat at Federal Street – we recommend heading to the City Works Depot for cuisine and craft beer with a Kiwi twist. After dinner, why not catch a live gig or dance the night away at one of the lively neighbourhood bars in Ponsonby?
Day 2
Get your fill with a hearty NZ style breakfast because you’ve got an action-packed half day Beach Blaster Quad Bike Safari ahead. With no experience needed, you’ll soon be trailblazing on a 4-Wheel Motor Bike Safari ride covering up to 55 kilometres of rugged forest tracks, as well as carving it up along Muriwai Beach. Don’t forget your camera!
Can’t pack enough adrenaline into the long weekend? You’d be remiss to forgo the legendary Auckland Bridge Climb. The climb offers unparalleled access to the Auckland Harbour Bridge with 360 degree views from the highest point.
Your tour guide will fill you in on all matters of this prime Auckland landmark; hear all about the bridge’s secrets, architectural features, and benefit from city sights being pointed out to you.
This is sightseeing at its peak – literally! Prefer to live on the edge? Take the Auckland Bridge Bungy. Get in the true Kiwi spirit and opt for the water-touch bungee and dunk your head in the Waitemata Harbour!
Head to Ponsonby for dinner – one of the most fashionable inner-city suburbs in central Auckland. Don’t miss the hip new Ponsonby Central area, with its laneway of stylish bars and street vendor-style eateries.
Day 3
After getting your fill of breakfast and quality kiwi coffee, you’ll start the day out on the sea with a ferry ride from Auckland to Waiheke Island, and then get your engine started on a flying fox zipline through the bush, followed by a guided hike with EcoZip Adventures.
Why not make the most of your time on Waiheke Island and stay for a long lazy lunch, enjoying the island’s local produce and fresh seafood paired with award-winning local wines?.
Day 4
Back-to-back action, after your final gourmet cafe breakfast in Auckland, hold onto your coffee beans because you’re about to take the iconic Auckland SkyWalk or, for the really adventurous, the SkyJump!
Conclude your adventure-rich long weekend with the ultimate thrill-seeking activity by hurling yourself off the tallest building in New Zealand. Don’t worry, there are strings attached! SkyJump is NZ’s highest jump and its only Base Jump by wire. So, if you fancy plummeting 92 metres off Auckland’s Sky Tower at 85 kilometres an hour, sign up now!
For another heart pumping experience, take the SkyWalk instead. You’ll walk around the outside of the Sky Tower taking in the epic views with nothing between you and the ground but a rope and a 1.2 metre wide platform – this is extreme sightseeing at its best. Catch your breath on the way to the airport.
