This elegant Japanese style castle overlooks Osaka city from within its historic walls as if watching over its now modern surroundings. While the castle is a recreation built in 1931, it is a stunning replica of the original that stood here from 1583. Sitting upon a hill and surrounded by tall stone walls and a striking moat, this beautiful site is perfect for those cultural Japanese photo ops.
Built on top of a tall stone foundation, Osaka castle is one of Japan’s most famous sites as it played a role in the country’s unification in the late 1500’s. Today this stunning structure houses a museum covering the vast history of the site and castle itself. The castle grounds cover an almost 1 square kilometre area and features many different Japanese styled structures, including historic gates, turrets and other buildings. These are situated along landscaped gardens and inviting pathways.
The museum within the modern interior of the castle contains fascinating exhibits and displays which details the history of this historic site and include artefacts that are hundreds of years old. On the very top floor of the castle visitors are able to enjoy the view from 50 metres above ground in the castle’s observation deck.
The castle is located in the heart of Osaka and is accessible by the subway’s Chuo Line at Tanimachi Station or on the Osaka Loop Line at Osakajo Koen Station.
