Who can resist walking through an underwater tunnel filled with schools of beautiful fish? The Osaka Aquarium is one impressive site and anyone with an interest in not only marine life but the earth and its delicate balance of underwater eco-systems will come away impressed. The aquarium engages visitors through large tanks filled with a vast array of sea life and recreates in the most realistic ways, the extreme biodiversity of the Pacific volcano belt.
One of the largest aquariums in the world, this fascinating Osaka attraction situated on the shores of Osaka Bay features over 16 diverse exhibits. The exhibits include 27 huge tanks filled with some of the most exotic fish and sea creatures found on the planet. One tank is an impressive 9 metres deep and is filled with marine life from the Pacific. Here visitors can watch the haunting manta rays float quietly past and a massive whale shark as it patrols its waters.
Whether it’s watching the playful penguins in the Antarctica tank, the colourful fish and coral reef at the Great Barrier Reef tank and display or being entertained by the beautiful South Pacific dolphins in the Tasman Sea exhibit, there is a lot to see in this extensive aquarium. On the far side of the Pacific, the Coast of Chile is revealed as is the Ecuadorian Rain Forest. Be sure not to miss the exhibit with some local interest, the Japan Deep tank, featuring crabs and fish found from the vast depths of 200 to 400 metres below the sea.
The aquarium is easily reached on public transportation. The Osaka Subway Chuo line stops at the Osakako Station which is about a five minute walk away. The aquarium is located next to the Tempozan Market Place and Ferris Wheel.
