This sub-tropical Pacific island is an Australian territory which lies some 1600 kilometres east of the mainland, and north of New Zealand. It marries history and natural beauty to very pleasing effect. The highest point is Mount Bates and it's surrounded by a national park which contains remnants of rainforest which once covered the island.
