The phrase, 'the Middle East' was actually coined by the British to signify the region between Europe in the west and Asia in the far east. Depending on different interpretations, there are around 14 countries within the Middle East including Israel, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. As such, this region encompasses many fascinating historic sights, the remains of medieval traditions and beautiful seaside resort towns.

Commence your exploration of the Middle East by heading to Dubai for a taste of modern luxury, glitz and glamour – this is a major shopping destination. Next on the agenda could be Israel to appreciate the medieval beauty of the old town of Jerusalem. Also in Israel it's worth investigating the fortress of Masada in the Jordan Valley, swimming in the Dead Sea and admiring the Sea of Galilee in the north. From Israel, head across the border into Jordan to admire the incredible facades at Petra and the Roman city of Jerash.
