Live la dolce vita in irresistible Italy

14 October 2019

If there’s anything that sums up Italy, it’s la dolce vita – the sweet life. It’s a culture of enjoying all the best life has to offer – delectable food, stunning art and breathtaking Mediterranean landscapes. What makes Italy even sweeter is that there’s something new to experience wherever you go – Italy boasts many distinct regions, each with their own flavour, feel and highlights.

Rome

The Eternal City is so full of sights, sounds and experiences that it’s hard to know where to start. Do you head straight for the Colosseum or the Sistine Chapel? Or do you toss a coin in the Trevi and Fountain and just start walking, taking in the beauty around you? Wherever you go, don’t forget to do as the Romans do – stopping to enjoy the street cafes, wine bars, markets and gelaterias along the way.

Venice

Is there anywhere more romantic than the floating city of Venice? The Bridge of Sighs, the Doge’s Palace, the Grand Canal – even the place names are magical. Yes, a gondola ride is a must-do when you visit, but that’s just the start of Venice’s many charms, from the colourful houses of Burano to tucked away trattorias serving sublime seafood and lavish Venetian tapas.

Tuscany

All of the movies and books can’t prepare you for just how incredible Tuscany is in real life. Watching the soft sunset over Florence with a glass of Prosecco in hand. Cycling through the olive groves and vineyards of Tuscan wine country. Digging into freshly made pasta and olive oil at a family-run farm. Seeing the exquisite detail of a Michelangelo sculpture up close at a Renaissance museum. Tuscany isn’t just home to masterpieces – it is a masterpiece.

Naples

Looking for the best pizza in Italy? Head straight to Naples where it was first invented where you’ll be spoiled for choice. Throw in the excellent street food and out-of-this-world espressos and you may find yourself eating more than sightseeing. Luckily, there are plenty of excursions to get you moving – hiking Mount Vesuvius, taking a tour to Pompeii, exploring the catacombs of San Genaro, or hopping over to nearby Capri.

Sicily

Another one from beautiful #sicily We actually did only a daytrip to sicily while staying in Malta. Altough it was a verry looong day, we had the chance to visit #taormina and Mount Etna. Taormina is such a picturesque little city, I immediately fell in love. There are so many small shops, restaurants and handcrafts, let alone the famous ancient theater from where you have a stunning view over the sea. Have you ever been to Sicily? Any other must dos we missed out? #italy #shorttrip #art #sicily_my_love #sharethesicily #sensesicily #visitsicily #visittaormina #visititaly #teamkaptainkenny #bnesimppl #bestplaces4travelandfood #travelherscollective #wanderfuldestionations #AGameof10k #consciousadventurist #WorldPrints #travelcues #instatravel #travelgram #instapassport #igtravel #aggielook #tourism #theglobewanderer #travelawesome #travelitaly #travelsicily

If you like your history with a view, look no further than Sicily. Situated halfway between Europe and Africa, this gorgeous island is steeped in culture. From Greek temples and Baroque churches to spectacular beaches and mountains, Sicily’s beauty shines through everywhere you go. As if that wasn’t enough to entice you, there’s the incredible food, especially the sweet stuff! Sicilians love dessert so much they even have it for breakfast – gelato inside a buttery, brioche bun.
